Workshops

alt

Endoscopic nasal surgery is a quickly developing technique that requires to the Clinicians periodical updates. Workshops are dedicated to ENT, maxillo-facial and neurosurgeons, (specialists and residents) who are keen to pursue or delve into the learning of mininvasive endoscopic nasal surgical techniques. Participants will be separated into small group in order to be accommodated in the surgical theatres. A simultaneous videoconference communication system will be established in the conference room to provide all participants with a live telecast of the operations in progress throughout the whole day. The aim of the courses is to provide experiences in basic and advanced endonasal endoscopic surgery, by allowing active participation in surgical operations rather than theory lessons. Furthermore the scheduled clinical cases will be elucidated with discussions on the diagnostic and therapeutic workflows. We generally divide the workshops into “basic” and “advanced” in order to cater for every level of surgeons. In particular the basic course is mainly designed for ENT specialists, while the advanced course will appeal to all specialists who are practising skull-base surgery, such as ENT, neurosurgeons and maxillo-facial surgeons.

Basic course

The basic three-day workshop includes sessions in the surgical theatre and lectures. After a presentation of the clinical cases, participants will access the surgical theatres and discuss the surgical procedures directly with the tutors. Contents of the lectures include sinonasal surgical anatomy (macroscopic, endoscopic 3D and radiologic), therapeutic and surgical indications, and collaboration with specialists from other disciplines in handling patients. As the level of the course is basic, it is limited to ENT specialists or residents who would like to enhance their knowledge in the treatment of sinonasal logistic pathology and other specific issues, such as endoscopic nasal surgery under local anaesthesia, endoscopic treatment of sinonasal pathologies in children, and the management of possible complications.

The advanced three-day workshop includes daily sessions in the surgical theatre and lectures. After a presentation of the clinical cases, participants will access the surgical theatres and discuss the surgical procedures directly with the surgeons. Lectures of advanced level will be conducted, with contents including the sinonasal 3D anatomy, therapeutic and surgical indications, and collaboration with specialists from other disciplines. As the level of the course is advanced, it is suitable for medical doctors dealing with skull-base pathology (ENT, neurosurgeons and maxillo-facial specialits and residents) who would like to enhance their knowledge in endoscopic nasal technique. The course is focused on: variety of surgical approaches; various ways to remove the lesions; various ways for skull-base reconstruction. The core of the course is the multidisciplinary management of the sinonasal and skull-base malignancies.
